TNCBA Tr.5 - Watauga (6.5.2021)

Saturday, June 5th, TNCBA anglers will make their way to the scenic venue of Watauga Lake. Watauga Lake boasts a healthy population of largemouth, smallmouth, and spotted bass, all of which are sure to play a key role in Saturday’s event. Watauga Lake has a unique forage base that includes trout on the menu and that forage base produces trophy size bass.

The bass should be entering the tail end of the spawn and the majority should be making their post spawn moves. Cover such as laydowns, standing timber, and boat docks should be key elements as these bass pull back out from their spawning areas. Competitors should expect to find a shad spawn occurring in areas of the lake, which should produce a topwater/spinnerbait bite early in the morning. Once the sun gets higher in the sky anglers will need to make adjustments that will have the bass holding tighter to cover.

The interesting aspect of Watauga is the multiple species and how they play. Will anglers head up lake to focus mainly on largemouth or will they hang down the lake in search of smallmouth. With a deep/clear highland reservoir like Watauga, there is always the potential for a tough bite, but this lake has also turned out some of our biggest bass and heaviest bags. We want to say thank you to all of our 2021 TNCBA Partners and especially Kingsport CPA who is our title sponsor for this event.

There is enough room for two boats to pull into the lower parking lot and then back in then back onto the ramp. *Do NOT at any time park in the lower parking area.
